How can a chiropractor fix my aching feet? This a question that is all too uncommon and asked too little. The foot and ankles are one of the most common areas of the body that can go untreated. Your doctor may tell you that you have a sprain, give you some pain medications, and tell you to stay off of it for a while. The sprain itself will heal but other problems can arise. For example, with ankle inversion sprains, the ligaments can be damaged. Such sprains are presented when the foot is twisted/inverted to such an extent that it goes beyond control of the ligaments and muscles. This ultimately leads to damage of the ligamentous and muscular systems of the ankle. This can be exacerbated into future pain and sometimes even impairment of the ankle. A Chiropractor can prevent future pain that arise out of sprains and other foot/ankle injuries through a short process of chiropractic rehabilitation.
What are the treatments, and how do they work? Depending on the diagnoses, the treatments are the following:
- Cold Therapy, or The RICE System (rest, ice, compress, and elevate) is used to treat inflammation and prevents scar tissue from forming.
- Heat Therapy can be used after swelling has ceased.
- Special tape is used to tape the injured ankle/foot to supply stability. We will check for tears or further injury within the ligaments of your foot/ankle before this step.
- Specific exercises that promote stability, muscle strength, and ligament function help you recover full use of your foot/ankle.
Additional rehabilitation may be needed such as certain exercises, additional therapies, or casting. Despite whether you have a sprain, a serious foot injury or just overused aching feet, we can offer quick and efficient pain relief.
