What to Expect
What to Expect with your initial Chiropractic Appointment
Don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you from achieving pain relief. We often find that many new patients are unsure what to expect during their first appointment with one of our Chiropractors in Daytona Beach.
During your first visit to Modern Health, one of our Chiropractors will begin by reviewing your medical history & pain symptoms.
In preparation for the chiropractic consultation, you will be asked to fill out forms that provide background information about his or her symptoms and condition. New Patient forms can be found here.
Types of questions typically include:
- When and how did the pain start?
- Where is it located?
- Describe the pain – is it sharp, dull, burning or throbbing?
- Did the pain start as a result of an injury?
- What activities/circumstances makes it better or worse?
Patients are usually asked to provide information on family medical history, any pre-existing medical conditions or prior injuries, and previous and current health providers and treatments. Our Chiropractor will then perform a physical examination that will be used in developing a working diagnosis.
A thorough chiropractic exam may include general tests such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and reflexes. They may also include specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess your current:
- Range of motion of the affected part
- Muscle tone
- Muscle strength
- Neurological integrity
Further chiropractic tests may be necessary to assess the affected area, such as having the patient move in a specific manner, posture analysis, or chiropractic manipulation of the affected body part. If deemed necessary, our Doctor of Chiropractic may also suggest an MRI, CT scan or X-ray imaging be completed to confirm a diagnosis.
Utilizing a combination of your medical history, physical exam, imaging results, your doctor of chiropractic will then be able to reach and explain your diagnosis. Once a diagnosis has been established, they will determine what chiropractic services are appropriate for your condition and develop a plan to treat your problems. The doctor will answer any questions or concerns you may have prior to initiating treatment.
